Why is heidi klum called the body

By Sheila Flynn For Dailymail. Elle Macpherson stared out from the cover of Time Magazine in January , her windswept hair blowing across her stunning face as an unzipped green swimsuit top struggled to contain her ample assets.

But it was Time that would be credited with earning her the nickname The Body, a moniker on which the six-foot model spent years capitalizing. She was still capitalizing on the title when another supermodel, nine years her junior and hailing from Germany , starred in a bra advertisement that appeared to proclaim her, in fact, The Body. Elle and Heidi have tried to downplay rumors of any feud, and the German model lived in a mansion directly across the street from the palatial Los Angeles home of Gisele and her quarterback husband.

Heidi Klum and Elle Macpherson attend a Vanity Fair Oscar party; Macpherson had been nicknamed The Body in the s, while the nine-years-younger German Klum burst onto the international modeling scene later. Elle Macpherson launched clothing lines with fashion company Bendon called Elle Macpherson Intimates, Macpherson Men and The Body - but in , Heidi Klum fronted a Victoria's Secret ad campaign for a seamless bra also called The body - sparking rumors of a feud and prompting a Macpherson spokeswoman to say the team was 'flabbergasted'.

Time magazine was credited with coining Macpherson's nickname The Body - and she reportedly considered taking legal action after Klum began associating herself with the name.

It all began with the career of Macpherson, who rocketed to fame with her athletic build and flawless features in the late 80s and early 90s after being discovered on an Australian beach.

Macpherson reportedly considered legal action against Klum for the appropriation of The Body but decided against it, partially because of advice given to her by, surprisingly, the Dalai Lama. She can have it. A few years later, however, Macpherson parted ways with Bendon after more than 25 years with the company — only to be replaced by none other than Klum.

Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen followed Klum and Macpherson onto the international modeling scene; she says in her new memoir that she too was nicknamed The Body. The model says she earned The Body nickname after walking in an Alexander McQueen show as a teenager - which turned out to be a traumatic experience because her outfit had no shirt.

Klum, center, and Gisele, to her left, previously lived in neighboring Los Angeles mansions. Both Gisele and Klum modeled for Victoria's Secret, though the German model was the only one of the pair to launch a 'Body' product for the fashion line.

It was offered to me. Klum, however, would not be the only new person being associated with The Body. In , when she was just 18 years old, Gisele Bundchen strutted across the catwalk for designer Alexander McQueen — and says she was subsequently dubbed The Body. Elle Macpherson has launched an array of business ventures over the years in addition to her modeling career, including The Body line; Klum said in an interview after the Body Victoria's Secret bra campaign that she'd seen Macpherson since the launch and 'she's totally cool'.

The book — Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life — also details the diet and exercise regime Gisele follows to preserve that body. She writes about everything from meditation to coconut pulling to drinking copious amounts of lemon water throughout the day. It was a big thing. Like every day I would have a muffin, so they'd call me the 'Muffin' because I was always stuffing my face with muffins.

I love them because in Germany we have no muffins," she explains. Asked how the show is going, Klum says: "Very good. I mean, right now I think four or five weeks into the show. Now we know we filmed it awhile back. Now our designers, our finalists are all home working on their final collection for fashion week in September.

It was a lot of fun being there and watching the whole process and seeing what they come up with every week. They are really, really talented people. I think it's fun for people to watch it and that's why they really enjoy the show because they love watching what people can do with their hands in such a short time.
