Over the last 20 years I have been amazed by how many changes have taken place in the education context more broadly. This has meant that we have had to make a lot of strategic decisions about which courses to develop and which students to attract to York.

It is a fast changing scenario. The Department at the moment is in very good health. It has large numbers of students and offers a really interesting range of programmes. I hope that over the next 25 years or so the Department keeps making the right decisions to consolidate those areas of teaching and research where it has established itself and where that is still the right place to be located but is also able to respond to the challenges.

If over the next 25 years it can maintain that health then it will be absolutely fantastic. What has really struck me is how the status of Education at York is now riding so high. If it can maintain that status where high quality teaching learning and research is going on while also reaching out to the wider national and international community that would be absolutely fantastic.
